Holt Country Park circular
All WalksHolt Country Park covers 100 acres of mixed woodland, and is bursting with wildlife and interesting attractions including wooden sculptures and a viking longhouse. This easy route follows the widest loop of the Park, but can be easily adapted as you explore the intersecting pathways across the site.
Arriving at Holt Country Park is easy as there is a spacious car park, where fees apply. At the car park you’ll find Hetty’s House tea room serving hot and cold drinks, cake, sandwiches, and more, with an outdoor seating area and seasonal ice cream cart. Just a few steps away there are toilets and a visitors centre. Dogs are permitted off lead throughout the Park, making it a fantastic place for walkies! You’ll find a water bowl by the tea room as well as dog waste bins throughout the woods. Be sure to pick up after your dog and carry bags with you until you reach a bin.
Our route follows well-maintained paths at the Park, which are mostly woodland trails. While these flat pathways are gentle underfoot, they can become muddy in inclement weather – be prepared with wellies or waterproof footwear in Autumn/Winter.
The Park is a great place to let dogs sniff their way around the woods, and there are lots of activities and points of interest for those with children. There are various wooden sculptures waiting to be discovered throughout the Park, and even a viking longhouse with hand carved animals adorning the ceiling. One of our favourite points to stop at is the Tin Can Alley, where visitors are encouraged to gather pinecones from the woodland floor and try their best to knock cans from a carved wooden platform. We spend ages attempting to knock down all of them, while the dogs we’re walking chase after any pinecones that miss! For wildlife enthusiasts, the Park is home to newts, snakes, owls, bats, butterflies and more, with helpful signage helping visitors identify them.
