Falls of Bruar
All WalksThe Falls of Bruar are a series of waterfalls on the Bruar Water in Pitagowan, and have become a popular spot for a picturesque woodland walk. Our route begins at the House of Bruar, where you’ll find plenty of options for food and shopping, as well as toilets and a spacious car park – we highly recommend arriving by car for this walk.
From the car park, head towards the House of Bruar and around the side of the building – on the corner of the building, on the B8079, you’ll see a small green signpost pointing left in the direction of the falls. The trail to and from the falls is along woodland paths, with some sections of steep, stone track. There are a few benches to stop and rest at along the way, perfectly positioned for views over the rushing water below. Some parts of the path are a little uneven underfoot due to tree roots – take care and make sure you wear appropriate footwear. Dogs must be kept under close control along the route due to the sheer drop from the path down to the water.
You’ll enjoy many quaint sights along this walk. Just past the House of Bruar you’ll pass underneath a railway line before entering dense woodland, rich in a variety of species. Our route takes you to both the upper and lower falls, with charming stone bridges at both to enjoy spectacular views over the water, woodland and hillside beyond that become more impressive the higher you climb.
The route takes you on a loop through the woods before circling back across the lower stone bridge and following the waterside path back towards the House of Bruar. We highly recommend stopping in to peruse the shops, and treat yourself to something at the cafe!
