Pooh Sticks Bridge, Ashdown Forest
All WalksThis route is a shorter version of our walk to see all the Winnie the Pooh sites on the Ashdown Forest. This there-and-back route is easy to follow and takes you to Pooh Sticks Bridge and Winnie the Pooh’s house, via Piglet’s house and Owl’s house! In total this walk takes around 30 minutes so it’s perfect for those with dogs who can’t manage a longer route, or for those with children – though you’ll need to allow extra time for endless games of Pooh Sticks once you reach the bridge!
The route begins at Pooh car park, where it’s best to arrive as early as possible as the 25-30 spaces here fill up fast, especially during the Summer holidays or on weekends. For those without their own transport, there’s a 262 community bus service that runs between Uckfield and Hartfield on Saturdays, with a bus stop at Chuck Hatch Lane (just 3 minutes walk to Pooh car park, and the beginning of this route).
Starting at Pooh car park, head away from the road and down the sloping footpath into the woods. Be sure to look up as you descend the dirt path to spot Piglet’s house and Owl’s house tucked up in the trees on the righthand side! After around 0.8km you’ll reach Pooh Sticks Bridge where you’ll find the rules to Pooh Sticks framed on the bridge itself. To find Pooh’s house, carry on over the bridge until you reach a small, natural alcove in the hedgerow, with his ‘Mr. Sanderz’ house sign above a door and a mail box that is usually stuffed with letters from young visitors. Many people have left items here like Winnie the Pooh cuddly toys and quite a few jars of honey to satiate the bear’s appetite for a sweet treat!
There are no facilities here, and there are no poo bins for those with four-legged friends – be sure to take any dog bags with you.
